me

Hello, my name is Gabriele.

I was born more than half a century ago in Napoli, Italia. Currently living in Roma.
I am a technology enthusiast, an endlessly curious student. It all started when I was eight years old, thanks to my passion for video games. I regularly used to hang inside an arcade room, trying to figure out if my favorite motorcycle racing game was driven by a man trapped inside its cabinet. I asked my dad about "him", he laughed and talked about a bunch of electronics circuits delegated to control the opponents bikes. He pronounced That specific Word: Computer.

I suddenly realized I wanted to know everything about computers and it turned to become my pleasing obsession since then. I begun reading every magazine and book on the subject, learnt BASIC programming on my Commodore 64, experimenting with 6502 assembly and peripherals interfacing. Then Amiga entered my life and its OS, its unique architecture triggered my interest in C/C++ programming. Later on my hobby became my profession, initially as an hardware technician, then as sys admin, later as a programmer, consultant, functional analyst. I've been working as an IT professional for over 30 years now and I'm not done yet.
During early 2000s I started designing hobby digital circuits, falling in love with Atmel's AVR family, way before Arduino was even a thing. Right now I'm slowly working on my own 6502 SBC design and I find it's a challenging and rewarding task.
I also worked as developer for a couple of entertainment projects, trying to break out as an indie game developer, with poor results. I'm still into them though, and I'll try to talk about my projects right here. Enjoy my blog and thanks for stopping by.
